Tom Flower – Royal Army Service Corps (s307660)

Tom, the eldest son of Annie and Thomas Parke Flower, was born in 1876.  By the age of fourteen he was a grocer’s apprentice and he went on to be a baker and confectioner. Tom married Amelia Lottie Foster (bottom left) in 1902.  The couple, with their family of four children, lived at 12 Violet Place, Philog, Whitchurch near Cardiff.

They were an affectionate family sending cards and loving messages to the grandparents in Bascote.  Mrs Foster, Amelia’s well dressed mother (below), was part of the family circle too.  Pictured here are the children with toys Tom had made for Christmas.

Tom Flower enlisted in Glamorgan in December 1915 when he was 39 years old. He was posted abroad in March 1917. In the military, his bakery skills were assessed and he was deemed to be a ‘foreman’ baker. He was demobbed in 1919.
