“We are taught the timeline and political events of World War Two (3rd Sept 1939  –  2nd Sept 1945), but it is the social life and memories of the people who lived through those times which are what influence the future lives of the people, their children and grandchildren, rather than the official line of events.

Here are the memories of some of those people who lived in Southam and the surrounding villages during that war.  Stories that have been passed down through their families and friends and are recorded here some eighty years later.

Some wrote their memories in earlier years for Jack and Rene Cardall for inclusion in the Cardall Collection, while others have added theirs more recently for the Southam Heritage Collection archives.  Sadly, many of these people are no longer with us, but this makes the recording of these memories all the more poignant and by writing this book we are making sure their special memories, thoughts and feelings are never forgotten.”
